Here’s what you need to know about Celebrex, including its uses, dosage recommendations, and potential side effects.

Unlike many other prescription drugs that work by blocking the production of specific chemicals in the body, Celebrex is not a drug that helps with pain or inflammation. Instead, it's a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID).

How Does Celebrex Work?

Celebrex is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that works by blocking the production of certain hormones that cause inflammation and pain in the body. It works by reducing the body's production of a specific chemical called prostaglandins, which are responsible for inflammation and pain.

When a person takes Celebrex, the body releases a chemical called COX-2, which helps to prevent the production of prostaglandins. COX-2 plays a crucial role in many bodily functions, including inflammation and pain. By inhibiting the COX-2 production, Celebrex can help reduce inflammation and pain.

What is the Dose of Celebrex?

The dosage of Celebrex is based on the condition the patient is currently in. Your doctor will determine the appropriate dosage for you based on your individual health needs and medical history.

Typically, the dosage for you will be the lowest dose for the shortest possible time. However, if your doctor determines that your condition is not working well enough or you’re experiencing severe side effects, they may adjust your dosage.

For most patients, the recommended dosage is 50 mg taken once daily at the same time every day. However, for more severe side effects, the dose can be increased to 100 mg or decreased to 25 mg. For Celebrex, the lowest dose for the shortest possible time is usually recommended.

Your doctor may start you on Celebrex at the lowest dose and gradually increase the dosage over time. They may also recommend increasing or decreasing your dosage based on your response to treatment.

Depending on your condition and how your doctor determines whether or not you are experiencing pain, Celebrex can help to alleviate symptoms associated with osteoarthritis.
